With some thought and planning, we can travel with less impact.

          Air Travel
Air travel produces large amounts of emissions so reducing how much you fly by even one or two trips a year can reduce your contribution to emissions significantly.

Choosing night flights, when the atmosphere is cooler, helps to curb the global warming affects of airplane emissions.

Check out TerraPass, a for-profit partner of Expedia who allows you to buy energy reducing offsets when you fly (carbon offsetting is the act of mitigating greenhouse gas emissions in various ways, e.g. planting trees, investing in clean energy, etc.). With TerraPass, $5.99 buys you 1,000 lbs of CO2 offsets, equaling about 2,200 miles; $16.99 for 2,500 lbs of CO2 and 6,500 miles; and 5,000 lbs of CO2 for $29.99, enough for 13,000 miles of flying.
To buy a Flight TerraPass through Expedia, you just book a ticket as normal, and look for the “Customize your trip” page under the heading of “Featured Activities & Services.” You can also buy a TerraPass through Expedia separately by clicking on the “Activities” tab and selecting dates and a destination.

Other tips for reducing aviation emissions:
fly direct wherever possible; take-off and landing are the most polluting parts of any flight
pack less stuff; every pound of luggage means additional fuel burned
teleconference
vacation closer to home
look into taking a train or a bus

Hotels
When you travel, look for “green” hotels. Green Hotels are properties that actively operate programs designed to save water, save energy and reduce the amount of solid waste they generate.
