Having a party? Set an example with innovative ways to reuse what you have and reduce the after waste. These suggestions can really set your party apart.

Creating Memories

Use your own camera instead of using a disposable camera to capture holiday memories.

Using rolls of film with 36 exposures instead of 12 will reduce waste by 67%.

Extend your cameras battery life by using faster film speeds that reduce the use of the flash.

Reusable batteries are more cost efficent in your digital camera. When not using recharger make sure you unplug it.

Food

To avoid excess packaging, buy the foods for your party menu in bulk.

Donate any sizeable leftovers to a community shelter.

Table

Use reusable tableware; if you don't have enough, ask to borrow tableware from friends or family, or pick it up inexpensively at a thrift store, then re-donate it after the party.

If your party is for a large group, rent your tableware instead of using expensive disposables; the cost will be comparable.

Use last year's holiday cards as place setting cards.

Use holiday cards as placemats (see holiday crafts).

Note: If you do find that you need to use disposable drinkware or individual bottles of water, make available something for your guests to mark their drinks to avoid overuse of these resources.

Recycling

By placing identifiable recycling containers at your party, guests can take part in the effort.
