Patrick and Lisa care about the environment on a day-to-day basis.
Patrick is a native Oregonian raised in Reedsport on the central Oregon coast. Patrick has lived in the Portland Metro area for close to 20 years and has always used public transportation whenever possible. During the 17 years that he worked for NIKE, Patrick was a faithful bicycle commuter; day in, day out, rain, snow or sleet he rode his bike to work almost everyday. It is estimated that over the course of 17 years, using his bike to commute 3 miles roundtrip to work, he rode 11,730 miles. Patrick made that commitment out of his love for the earth.
Lisa was born and raised in California and has lived in Oregon for the past 18 years. Before moving to Oregon, she worked for an artist in San Francisco who had a very successful business selling jewelry and sculpture made from found and discarded objects. “We were passionate about the beauty we saw in artfully smashed cans, random pieces of metal, or bottle caps that we found on the street.”
Lisa is also an artist, and in her own artwork she also likes to re-use old calendars, cards, and images from what would otherwise be discarded materials. “Rather than thinking of each piece of paper or found object as garbage, I think of it as a potential material to be re-used.”
Their wisdom is summed up when Lisa says, “It is truly amazing the impact that just one person can have from a simple day to day commitment.”
