Elaine Loving and her husband Max are master recyclers.

They have a recycling station in the garage that holds assorted plastics. Their recycling station not only contains the plastic she and her husband use, but it also holds plastics collected from eight of their neighbors.

Their neighbors bring them plastic by the bag full; things like used scotch tape dispensers, scratched CDs, plastic to-go containers, and broken garden chairs.

They add these items to their recycling station and wait for one of Metro’s Master Recycler plastic roundup days, which happen around the community once every three months. On roundup days they can haul the plastic to a collection site where it will then be transferred to a facility that recycles and reuses it in new products.

The program is catching on in the neighborhood, and each month one or two more neighbors join in.

We salute the Lovings and their neighbors for taking the initiative to keep all of that plastic out of the landfill.

A job well done indeed!
