| According to the Environmental Protection Agency, 75% of what Americans throw in the trash can be recycled. Currently, only 25% is. Let’s make zero waste our goal. Washington County Cooperative Curbside Collection: 503.846.8609 Rural "roadside" recycling is available on the first garbage pick-up day of each month as part of garbage service. Place the red recycling bins next to your mailbox or nearest public road so that the hauler can easily see and access it. Curbside Recycling Guidelines Used Motor Oil: Pour motor oil into a see-through, unbreakable container (one gallon is preferred) with a screw top lid and place it next to your recycling bin. Glass: Washington County accepts glass bottles and jars only. Remove lids and rinse containers clean. Do not mix glass with other recyclables; place it in a separate container next to your gray recycling bin. Aerosol Cans: Empty only. Remove the plastic cap. Please do not flatten, puncture the can, or remove the nozzle. Aluminum Cans: Rinse cans clean then remove paper labels to recycle with scrap paper. Buckets: 5-gallons or less, handles are okay. Metals: All scrap metal which is smaller than 36 inches long and less than 40 pounds. Do not include metal contaminated with plastic, food, or other non-metal materials. Plant Pots: rinsed and clean, 4” to 5 gallons. Plastic Bottles and Tubs: rinsed and clean, 6 ounces or larger. Tin or Steel Cans: Rinse cans clean then remove paper labels to recycle them with scrap paper. Cardboard: Flatten boxes. For large boxes, please flatten them and place them under the bin in stacks no larger than 3 feet by 3 feet. Wax coated cardboard is not accepted. Drink Boxes, Aseptic Containers: Rinse boxes clean. Do not include plastic straws. Magazines Milk and Juice Cartons: Rinse cartons clean and place in the bin. Newspaper Paper: All scrap paper including toilet paper tubes, paper towel tubes, cereal boxes, and egg cartons. Secure the material to prevent from blowing away.
