Ten seconds of idling uses more fuel than restarting your engine, and restarting a car many times has little impact on engine components. Info: 503-234-3000 Events of Interest October World Vegetarian Month Can changing your diet really have much of an impact? In a groundbreaking report, the United Nations said that raising animals for food generates more greenhouse gases than all the cars and trucks in the world combined. Here are some more good reasons to try vegetarian: For the Animals- help save some of the more than 10 billion animals in the U.S. that are slaughtered for food each year. For the Planet- help prevent pollution of water, air and land, and the destruction of forests for grazing. For Your Health- by becoming vegetarian, you significantly reduce your risk for a variety of diseases such as heart disease, cancers & diabetes, and you decrease your exposure to pesticides, hormones, and other harmful chemicals. For Your Soul- by becoming vegetarian, you adopt a humane lifestyle that promotes love, compassion and nonviolence for all. October is a good month to look at “green” food options. October 1 Vegetarian Day Why does a vegetarian diet help create a better world? It takes 15 to 20 pounds of grains to produce 1 pound of meat. The grains and soybeans fed to American livestock each year would feed 1.3 billion starving people.
