*Master Recyclers Plastics Roundup Guidelines:
Please rinse and sort plastics with numbers by numbers.
Also accepted:
Plastic film(dry cleaning, store sacks, cereal liners, bubble wrap, Mylar, six pack rings, tortilla chip bags, freezer bags, zip lock bags, etc.)
Plant pots smaller then 4 inches and trays (please knock out dirt ahead of time)
Miscellaneous plastics without numbers: bottle caps, lids, DVD's, CDs, CD cases, straws, vinyl, lawn/patio furniture, play structures, pet igloos, laundry baskets, kiddy pools & more. (Bring it, we'll try to take it.)
Not accepted:
Food-contaminated or dirty plastic
"Styrofoam" blocks, peanuts, food trays, or egg cartons
"Compostable" or # PLA 7 plastics
PVC pipe
Plastic with metal or electronics inside (spray bottle nozzles and hand lotion pumps have metal springs and ball bearings in them) (Small toys may also have imbedded metal)
Foam or rubber

**Hazardous Waste Roundup Guidelines:
While participating in these events, please try not to idle your car- we are solving the toxic waste problem, but we are potentially creating another problem by contributing to air pollution; excessive idling can be hard on your engine and you can reduce smog by turning your engine off when your vehicle is parked or waiting in line. Ten seconds of idling uses more fuel than restarting your engine, and restarting a car many times has little impact on engine components. Info: 503-234-3000

World Vegetarian Month

Can changing your diet really have much of an impact? In a groundbreaking report, the United Nations said that raising animals for food generates more greenhouse gases than all the cars and trucks in the world combined. Here are some more good reasons to try vegetarian:
For the Animals- help save some of the more than 10 billion animals in the U.S. that are slaughtered for food each year.
For the Planet- help prevent pollution of water, air and land, and the destruction of forests for grazing.
For Your Health- by becoming vegetarian, you significantly reduce your risk for a variety of diseases such as heart disease, cancers & diabetes, and you decrease your exposure to pesticides, hormones, and other harmful chemicals.
For Your Soul- by becoming vegetarian, you adopt a humane lifestyle that promotes love, compassion and nonviolence for all.
October is a good month to look at “green” food options.

October 1
Vegetarian Day

Why does a vegetarian diet help create a better world? It takes 15 to 20 pounds of grains to produce 1 pound of meat. The grains and soybeans fed to American livestock each year would feed 1.3 billion starving people.
